Losing a loved one is never easy, and attending their funeral is often an incredibly challenging time emotionally. Whether you were close with them or not, saying goodbye can leave you with a mix of emotions, and it's perfectly normal to feel confused, sad, or even angry as you process the fact that they're gone.
One woman on Reddit, however, was left feeling more confused than most when three strangers turned up unannounced in the middle of her father's funeral service. The woman explained her dad passed away at 62, and had lived a relatively normal life with his wife, her mother, with whom he had been in a relationship since he was a teenager.
But when a woman and two teenage boys walked into the funeral service unannounced, everything that the woman knew about her father came crashing down around her.

The stranger approached her and said: "I think we should talk. I'm Denise. I was with your dad for 15 years."
Initially, the woman thought the stranger was lying to her, but when she backed it up with photographic evidence of her dad at birthday parties, Christmases, and vacations, she couldn't deny the proof.
She added: "She said he'd told her my mom had passed away years ago. He'd been living a double life for almost two decades, splitting time between 'work trips' that were really weekends with her.
"My mum's entire face crumpled when I told her. They'd just celebrated their 40th anniversary."
Now, both of her dad's families are facing the emotional fallout of the bombshell, as neither side knew the other existed until after his passing. While still trying to process the loss of the man they though they knew, they're now also grappling with what he left behind.
The woman continued: "Now we're dealing with the emotional fallout, two families grieving the same man, realising he wasn't the person we thought he was.
"I keep wondering how many birthdays and holidays he spent rushing between us, pretending he was late because of traffic."
Commenters on the post were gobsmacked at the family drama the woman had unknowingly become a part of. Many sent their condolences for her loss, both after the death of her father and the "illusion he built".
One person said: "Double life, double grief. You're mourning the man who raised you and the illusion he built. That's the worst kind of loss, when even your memories feel like lies."
Another added: "I am so sorry. All I can think of is that therapy would be good, and maybe the siblings would at least not hate each other. This is insanely tough to navigate with a death plus betrayal."
A third wrote: "Man, that's absolutely brutal. I can't even imagine processing that at a funeral of all places. The logistics alone of keeping two families going for 15 years is insane."
